The Istituto Clinico Humanitas, operative since 1996, is a clinical hospital credited by the Italian National Health System and serving more than 140.000 patients per year.

In 2005, in recognition of its high quality, Humanitas has been acknowledged by the Italian Ministry of Health as a Clinical Institute for Care and Scientific Research (IRCCS), whose mission -beyond patients’ care - is :

• to promote the scientific research of high technological quality in emerging biomedical fields
• to encourage a translational attitude from basic to clinical research
• to promote the higher educational training of young scientists in an international atmosphere.

A non-profit scientific research organization, Humanitas Research Foundation, has been founded in 2005, whose main scientific interests are on mechanisms of immunity and immunodegenerative diseases.
