Mission and Activities

Fondazione Humanitas per la Ricerca was born at the end of 2005, with a mission to foster research in the field of immunology and inflammation.

The activity of the Foundation has developed in the context of Istituto Clinico Humanitas, a large ~700-bed clinical research institution. Istituto Clinico Humanitas is recognized as a center of excellence for clinical research (IRCCS) by the Italian Ministry of Health in the field of gastroenterology.

Humanitas has a considerable research productivity in selected the clinical areas, including oncology, gastroenterology and cardiology. In this context, a mission of the Foundation is to promote translational efforts.

The general philosophy of Istituto Clinico Humanitas and the Humanitas Research Foundation is that a strong core research activity in immunology and inflammation would lend itself to trans-disease translational efforts in diverse clinical areas ranging from autoimmunity, to oncology, to cardiology etc. The potential of cutting edge research in immunology and inflammation to interact and impact on diverse clinical areas represents the “raison d’etre” of the Foundation in the context of Humanitas.

In summary, the Foundation is a new research Institution focused on inflammation and immunity with a strong commitment to clinical translation. It has the ambition to conduct high quality research and to provide a stimulating environment favouring independence of young investigators. Its ambition is to live up to the expectations of its most important stakeholders, the patients.
