PhD Programme on Immunology and Immunopathology
As a key part of its evolving research agenda the University provides higher research degrees at doctoral level both on its campus in England and also through approved partner institutions.
Students applying to the PhD Programme on Immunology and Immunopathology will be recruited to an ICH research project and supervised by academic staff at Humanitas within an Open University (OU) approved and UK quality assured framework for doctoral studies. The students will be part of the ICH research community but also joining more than 1,000 postgraduate research students working on a wide range of projects at the OU’s campus in the UK and at Affiliated Research Centres across the globe. Students are directly involved in the development of a specific research project under the supervision of an Internal Supervisor from ICH and an External Supervisor from UK. All the students participating in the Programme will receive from Humanitas a salary for the prospective period. On successful completion of the studies a Doctor of Philosophy research degree from The Open University is awarded. Students are recruited through an institutional international call.
The Open UniversityThe OU’s extraordinary reach is made possible by an extensive research portfolio. More than 50% of the University’s research was ranked 'internationally excellent' and 14% ‘world-leading’ in the UK government’s 2008 assessment of research quality. This puts many of its disciplines in the UK top 20. The OU was ranked in the top three Higher Education Institutions in the UK for student satisfaction in the UK’s 2009 National Student Survey, and has been a top performer since the Survey began in 2005.
